Background

In the 2022 season of The Block, Septic Systems Australia (SSA) played a pivotal role in the transformation of a historic Gisborne property, famously renovated by host Scott Cam. This project marked a significant milestone, blending heritage restoration with cutting-edge, eco-friendly infrastructure.

SSA played an essential role installing the septic systems for the 5 “blocks” that were built by the contestants.

A historic undertaking

The property, affectionately dubbed “Camalot,” is an 1866 weatherboard homestead nestled in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges. Scott Cam, taking on dual roles as host and renovator, led the restoration efforts, emphasizing the importance of integrating modern sustainability practices into the renovation of historic homes. “I love historic homes, and I love country homes and bringing them back to their former glory, so I enjoyed it,” Cam shared about his experience.

Innovative septic solutions

Tasked with installing the property’s wastewater management, SSA installed a state-of-the-art Taylex aerated wastewater treatment system and subsurface irrigation for each of the five beautiful  properties built on The Block’s site in Gisborne, Victoria.

Seamless integration and compliance

Navigating the complexities of council permits and environmental regulations, SSA managed the entire installation process, ensuring full compliance with local requirements. Their expertise in handling council applications, working in seamlessly with all trades onsite, and understanding of site-specific effluent dispersal options were instrumental in the project’s success.

A model for sustainable renovation

The successful installation of these septic systems for the Gisborne project serves as a model for sustainable renovation practices, particularly in rural contexts. By combining historical preservation with modern, eco-friendly infrastructure, the project exemplifies how traditional homes can be adapted to meet contemporary environmental standards.

SSA’s involvement in The Block not only highlights our technical abilities but also our dedication to promoting sustainable living solutions across Australia.
